I have never been more amazed over my body and its ability to do incredible things than I am during pregnancy. It’s also the time I work the hardest at taking care of my body and make sure it is getting the nutrients it needs, both for me and for my growing baby.

Supplements don’t replace a healthy relationship with food, and a diet that consists of a lot of protein, healthy fats and veggies. But they can also be very helpful during pregnancy when we’re trying to be intentional about getting enough of specific nutrients.

Here is a roundup of my favorite supplements to take during pregnancy, with links.

Thorne Basic Prenatal and Thorne DHA Prenatal

This is a high-quality brand without being terribly expensive. I usually take them at night before bed, especially during my first trimester when I might be feeling nauseous in the morning. Here is the basic prenatal link

and here is the DHA prenatal link.

Beef Liver Capsules

Beef liver is loaded with nutrients and a great way to help support healthy iron levels. I typically take half my beef liver in the evening before bed, and the other half in the morning.

Floradix Liquid Iron

This is by far my favorite way to support healthy iron levels during pregnancy. My iron levels were very low prior to my first pregnancy, and I tried a variety of different iron supplements. Most of them caused significant digestive issues. Floradix raised my iron to healthy levels and does not bother my digestive system at all.

Calm Magnesium Powder

Magnesium has so many benefits (especially while pregnant). It can promote good sleep, help prevent muscle cramps, help with headaches, and gently keep the digestive system moving along. I take this before bed, mixed in the glass of water I use to take all my evening supplements.

Trace Mineral Drops

This supplement made such a massive difference in my post-partum experience, and I’ve used it throughout this pregnancy as well. Our bodies need so many extra minerals and nutrients while we’re growing another human. It does have a flavor, so I generally add the drops to tea or an electrolyte drink during the morning, but the flavor of the Calm

Magnesium Powder would also cover them.

Ninxia Red

This goji berry purée is loaded with antioxidants, and has helped me stay healthy and maintain healthy energy levels through both postpartum and pregnancy.

My supplement routines:

In the morning before breakfast, I take Floradix and Ninxia Red. After breakfast I finish off my morning supplements with mineral drops in my tea, and half my beef liver capsules for the day.

In the evening before bed, I mix magnesium powder into a glass of water and use that to take my prenatal and DHEA supplements, along with the other half of my beef liver capsules.
